Voice quality measurement
MOS has become a common requirement in device and network testing, but the origin and meaning of MOS can be obscured and confused. In this 4-minute video, we begin a discussion of three key aspects of voice quality measurement:
- Mean Opinion Score
- POLQA & PESQ
- Speech samples for use in testing
In the next two videos we explore the principal metrics commonly used to evaluate MOS, investigate the differences between POLQA and PESQ and discuss which is more suitable in different applications.
In the third part we look into the speech samples used with POLQA and PESQ, giving practical advice about how to select them for your testing in any application.
VoIP Quality
Ok, maybe you're a Senior Network Engineer, and you probably already know every aspect about MOS... and you would be right! If you come from the Enterprise world rather than the telecom or network equipment industries, you may even think this video series is not for you... and you would be wrong! In order to know, I'd like to ask you a simple question: which ‘MOS’ do you have in mind exactly? Very often it will be a variant of “Network” or synthetic MOS. In this first video we talk about “Objective” versus “Synthetic” Mean Opinion Scores. In the enterprise world, IT teams do not always consider which algorithm, nor even which method is implemented by the test and measurement solution they use to monitor their VoIP Quality.
