Active Testing on Mobile Network

Overview

End-to-end active testing in mobile networks is a proactive method used by mobile operators and service providers to simulate real user behavior across the full service delivery chain—from the device, through the radio network, to the core and external services (e.g., internet or OTT apps). This approach helps ensure that services work as expected under real-world conditions.

It involves using test agents (e.g., test devices, probes, mobile robots) to actively generate traffic like calls, SMS, data sessions, or app usage to monitor and validate performance, quality, and service availability.

USE CASES

Opale Systems solution enables to perform active testing on mobile network ranging from 2G to 5G standalone (SA) to cover use cases such as :

  • Validation of New Services and Configurations : ensures safe rollouts of VoLTE, 5G SA, network slicing, or new apps.
  • Roaming Validation : Test SIM behavior and service availability across roaming partner networks and identify issues with interconnects, billing, and call routing.
  • SLA and Compliance Monitoring : Continuous active testing to validate service level agreements, supports regulatory audits or ensures public service reliability such as emergency call testing
  • Pre-launch Testing : Simulate usage before rolling out new services or upgrades.
  • Service Quality Testing (QoS/QoE) : Measure KPIs such as Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Data throughput, latency, Voice/video quality (MOS, POLQA)

OPALE SOLUTION

The Opale Systems Mobile Testing solution is based on Opale Systems 5G Robots which are Test Devices that provide connectivity to the Mobile Network under test using 2G/3G/4G or 5G technology.

Mobile Robots are deployed across different locations (e.g., in vehicles, buildings, fixed locations) and are piloted through an API in order to execute using their mobile interfaces .

Opale Systems 5G Robots are capable on testing any mobile services such as Voice calls (VoNR, VoLTE, 2G/3G/4G fallback), Voice Quality Assessment (PESQ, POLQA), Messaging (SMS, MMS), Data sessions (Browsing, FTP, HTTP/HTTPS) and App testing (YouTube, SpeedTest, Facebook, etc.).

Test results are collected through CDR (Call Data Record) accessible through the API.

SIM cards can be used locally on the 5G Mobile Robot or centralized and allocated on demand (Remote SIM).
