MOS has become a common requirement in device and network testing, but the origin and meaning of MOS can be obscured and confused. In this 4 min first video, we begin with a discussion of three key aspects of voice quality measurement :

  1. Mean Opinion Score,
  2. POLQA & PESQ
  3. and speech samples for use in testing.

In the next two videos we explore the principal metrics commonly used to evaluate MOS, investigate the differences between POLQA and PESQ and discuss which is more suitable in different applications.

In the third part we look into the speech samples used with POLQA and PESQ, giving practical advice about how to select them for your testing in any application.

In order to know, I'd like to ask you a simple question: which MOS do you have in mind exactly? 🙂

There are many different MOS out there in the field... And I am not just talking about the G.107, E model, CQ, LQ, and so on... These are more or less the very same "Network" MOS. I am talking about "Objective" versus "Synthetic" Mean Opinion Scores.  In the enterprise world, IT teams do not always consider which algorithm, nor even which method is implemented by the test and measurement solution they use to monitor their VoIP Quality.
